History

According to the salve amulet's journal, the crystal was brought to Ashenfall during the Third Age by Saradominists priest, cultivating it on Ashenfall's soil by utilising the natural magic infusing everything. With the amulet having properties against the undead, the dragonkin Lacrussa was fascinated with it, stealing the recipe for its creation and hid it within her vault. The crystal was used when she had found something buried within the earth that would twist and reanimate the dead, before Fellhollow's undead infection. The amulet helped her fend off against the undead from overrunning her lab, that is until she met her end by Kuldra.

Trivia

  • While it is said that a salve crystal was transported from the mainland to Ashenfall, the crystal did not receive any power until the Fourth Age, when Lord Drakan and his vampyre army were sealed within Morytania. This event had water from the river of Salve enter the mine where the crystals deposit resided, having them infuse with the water's holy magic. Why this one had power is unknown. It has been confirmed by Mod Raven that this was intentional; however, it is not meant to be a lorefail, but a mystery to "why did the amulet work."

Where did this practice come from? What is special about the crystals? Why did they think to do that with the Salve? Where did it all actually start? Lacrussa's amulet should not have worked, yet it did... why? There is an element in play that you can infer stuff from if you understand the full extent of Lacrussa's situation.", in reply to: "Aren't its powers over the undead directly derived from the River Salve blessing In which case it being named salve is very much not a misnomer And it wouldn't have existed in the Third Age"
