If a smiling garou sells you some 'human salts', or 'dinner dust' then be wary. There is a good chance that the garou trader doesn't like you and is selling you one of Umbral Sands' common compounds: dihydrogen monoxide. The scientists among you will perk up your ears: dihydrogen monoxide is a compound that forms a base for so many toxic substances and diseases. It's not 'dinner dust', as the cheeky garou might have suggested. Put it in a vial, keep it away from the hands of grasping children, and use it with care.
Trivia
- Dihydrogen monoxide is the formal chemical name for water. The in-game journal entry and description for this item refer to the ironic use of the name "dihydrogen monoxide" instead of its commonplace name, water, to give the impression that this is a dangerous chemical. Often, it is accompanied by alarming descriptions of its properties, such as saying "this chemical causes suffocation" to describe the dangers of drowning in water, as a means of illustrating how such language can mislead the reader. This ironic usage highlights the importance of public education in science.
